He Was Handsome

I saw a poem – one fashioned as a meme – that caught my eye. The meme suggests it was by F. Scott Fitzgerald, however the internet is wary of that attribution. So, though I am unsure of the source, I have copied it here with gender adjustments. I want my legacy to be something like this:

He Was Handsome
But not like those guys
In the magazines.

He was handsome for
The way he thought.
He was handsome for that
Sparkle in his eye when he
Talked about something he loved.

He was handsome for his ability
To make other people smile, even
When he was sad.

No, he wasn’t handsome for
Something as temporary as his looks.
He was handsome deep down
To his soul.
