CONVICTION – Glen Hartle

They gaze through the
window at themselves of yesterday
where they were looking

out the opposite window,
pandering to pity
and clucking at the world.

Sleeping in and
submitting to boredom
were their rights and

watching the sun rise,
a convenience.
As they watch from

where they are now living
what used to be the news,
they struggle to exhale;

for the rising inflation of time
is chasing them through one
of the windows.
