One of today’s “on this day” is a submission to the Ontario Poetry Society for 2 separate contests. A few snippets are here.
The process as a whole was … impersonal. I sent hand-addressed envelops with hand-written openings and received nothing back. No confirmation of receipt or any such thing.
Subsequently, when the list of winners was revealed and there seemed to be a great deal of repetition present given a large pool of poets from which to choose, I admit to being disillusioned with the process of submitting poems for contests …
A second occurrence – and with a local Ottawa-based poetry magazine – with a similar lack of feedback and repetition, pretty much closed the chapter on my reaching to contests / publications for inclusion.
My writing has continued unabated, however. And for this I am grateful and so today’s “on this day” brings a smile 🙂
