Powassan virus

There is a new threat which makes lyme disease look almost tame by comparison. And it’s here. Very, very close to home. Since 1950 (when it was discovered) there have only been 50 cases identified in Canada (as of May 2017) but a new case was diagnosed this spring in Black Bay, Quebec (very near to Luskville, Quebec).

Unlike the lyme bacteria which can take a long time for the tick to transmit, the Powassan virus can be transmitted in as little as 15 minutes.
